GABRIELLES
WISH, a
band from Manchester that create
an exciting blend of live raw
adrenaline and cool atmospheric
electronica.
As a live entity
Gabrielle’s wish are an assault on the senses:
‘Built around heavy duty bass and scatterfire drums,
this avalanche of sounds demands concentration, when they step up the speed a
tad, there’s a crackle of excitement, an air of explosive danger, of potential
bedlam’ John Robb
‘The sound is scathing, the vocals
anguished. The effect is refreshing and pure.’ ‘The raw uncompromising
brutality of GABRIELLE'S WISH
strip down any notions that a jangly indie fest may be on the point of breaking
out.’ Music in Manchester
‘Gabs Wish continue to influence and challenge the
current music scene and even manage to garner glowing NME reviews, which puts
them as ahead of the game as anyone.’
‘Big
thumping, raw bass and eerie anthemic guitars, help join the dry vocals into
the melting pot of Fall meets Chameleons territory. Gabrielle’s Wish are the
band who have kept their feet on the ground and maintained a relatively high
profile through various scenes (or lack of them) and ups and downs. It’s a
rocket fuelled angry gig – “fuck you” is the greeting.’ Manchester Music
‘Portal’ Gabrielle’s wish’s 2004 release is a home made touch
of pure melodic attitude. Only 1000 copies have been pressed on the self made
label Path.

Some views on
Portal:
“Gab’s Wish have always
understood what urban music should be. A distillation of punk, street rules and
political mantra and real life musical recalcitrance. Such an influential and complete album as “Portal” will be no
surprise to their legions of dedicated followers.” Manchester Music
“The honesty of their sound and the way they capture
the essence of our wonderful conurbation is actually an achievement in itself.
It is a soundtrack to a city that constantly reinvents itself making their
tribute to Manc life quite moving at times.”
Review from http://www.bbc.co.uk/
This
album is like a breath of fresh air to my ears. Early Factory is about right.
Vocals that contain the spirit of Curtis, but a few more references I made when
first listening here were Hussey circa "Mask", late Poppies and
without a doubt Killing Joke… You won't be surprised to learn that I consider
this the best listen I've experienced in a while. 9/10 AtomicDuster
‘…Gabrielles Wish should find that the omnipresent shadow they have cast over the local music scene will finally become a place in the spotlight. Portal draws on the steely Anglophile sound of Joy Division and Killing Joke, Blending each song into a rich train of ‘atmospherica’. After many years, there time may have finally come. City Life
